Appealing a Verdict on Your Behalf
Of course, as your law firm, we hope that we can achieve a win for the cases we try on your behalf in our many Practice Areas, however, there are times that we practice Appellate Defense to appeal your case. Information that publicly available discusses the court of appeals and lawyers duking it out in front of judges to overturn verdicts on behalf of their clients, but the reality of the Appellate Law we practice is a bit different.
It might surprise you to find out that an appellate defense attorney spends a lot of time evaluating the written record of the decision to identify legal or procedural errors which will assist in the appeal of a trial court verdict. This is in lieu of retrying the facts of the case or presenting new evidence, unless the verdict was so egregious that the entire case needs to be completed retried.

Our attorneys are tasked with a big job if it becomes necessary to appeal a case.
Below are the tasks that are necessary to get an appeal together on your behalf:
Trial Record Review
Examine hundreds or thousands of pages of trial transcripts, evidence, and witness testimony to locate legal mistakes.
Identifying Legal Errors
Search for mistakes such as improper jury instructions, admission of illegal evidence, or prosecutorial misconduct.
Research and Analysis
Analyze legal statutes, case law, and constitutional precedents to build a valid legal foundation for the appeal.
Draft Appellate Briefs
Write detailed, persuasive legal arguments (briefs) explaining to a panel of appellate judges why the lower court’s ruling was legally flawed.
Oral Arguments
Appear before a panel of appellate judges to present the case verbally and answer the judges’ questions about the legal issues.
Advise the Client
Counsel the client on the realistic merits, risks, and potential outcomes of pursuing an appeal.
We do hope for positive outcomes involving a case that file and try on your behalf, but our law firm is also fully prepared to appeal any verdicts that don’t go your way in order to try to achieve that win.
